The Masters

Anyone who has taken an art class knows that learning from the great Masters of painting is a must. Study them all you may, you cannot really appreciate what they have done until you sit down with brush, paint and canvas, and try to do it yourself.  By this I mean dissecting a Master's painting, figuring out what strategies were deployed, and what colors were used to achieve the effect. I cannot say that I did Caravaggio or John Singer Sargent justice, but then again few can. These were useful exercises however, giving me a greater appreciation for just how difficult painting is and how talented these individuals were. These were some of the first paintings I did, all in the medium of oil.
